I had the privilege of hearing Lysa TerKeurst speak earlier this year when I attended the She Speaks conference, and since her new book, The Best Yes, was available for early purchase at the conference, I took advantage of the opportunity and came home with a copy. It took me several weeks to finally sit down and read it, but when I did, I finished it within a couple of days, and it still has me thinking.
Our days are ordered by our use of the two most powerful words, “yes” and “no”, and The Best Yes offers powerful, biblical wisdom in discerning when to use each one. The book’s subtitle, “making wise decisions in the midst of endless demands,” succinctly summarizes Lysa’s no-nonsense approach to dealing with an obvious but sometimes troublesome reality: we cannot say “yes” to everything. Sometimes we must say “no” to people and to opportunities, but the real question comes when we wonder if we are really giving the “best yes” answers – are we choosing to say yes to the most important things in life, or are we just going with the flow while the truly meaningful experiences and opportunities pass us by?
“The decisions you make determine the schedule you keep. The schedule you keep determines the life you live. And how you live your life determines how you spend your soul.”
Thought-provoking and convicting, challenging and yet vibrantly encouraging, The Best Yes is a must-read!
