When we landed in Dublin, a friend met us at the airport and helped us navigate into central Dublin (a favor that I don’t think we fully appreciated until later, when we realized how fumblingly sleep-deprived we all were!), and he also recommended that we buy a 2-day pass for the hop-on hop-off buses, which provide the most convenient transportation between Dublin’s main sightseeing points. For a reasonable fee, travelers can purchase a pass that will cover unlimited rides on any of the green buses, from any stop — jump on to ride just to the next stop, or cover the whole tour loop.
The green double-decker buses became our best friends over the next 2 days, as we packed in our Dublin sightseeing and took advantage of the commentary provided by the bus drivers. Some of the buses have pre-recorded commentaries, available in multiple languages, but we much preferred the buses with live commentary by the driver. Not only were they informative and engaging, but most of them were also laugh-out-loud hilarious!
Apparently Dublin tour bus drivers have a reputation for comedy, and they sure delivered for us during those two days. Apparently I tend to find humor even funnier when delivered in a perfect Irish accent… I was about to share a video clip that my sister captured from one of the most hilarious drivers we encountered, but either a) it was even funnier in person than I remembered, or b) I was sleep-deprived and slap-happy and had morphed into a giggle monster, because the audio is regularly punctuated by the sound of my giggling in the background. <insert sheepish face> You’ll just have to trust me when I say — Dublin bus drivers are a riot!
Any other stories about Dublin tour bus commentaries? I’d love to hear about them!
